B.C. launches first-in-Canada online tribunal to resolve civil disputes
An online tribunal, the first of its kind in Canada, that allows B.C. residents to resolve strata disputes and small-claims squabbles is officially up and running, Attorney General Suzanne Anton boasted Friday.
The new civil resolution tribunal is a voluntary, but soon to be mandatory electronic, portal intended to ease court backlogs and alleviate access-to-justice concerns.
After a longer-than-expected gestation period, the tribunal, open 24/7, will not immediately clear clotted provincial dockets in the provincial and Supreme Courts dockets because it will initially accept only minor condo disputes that would rarely make it to court.
